As you can probably tell, this site is still under construction. I will try to get things more polished soon!
Today, I want to talk about a site I absolutely love: goodreads.com. This is a bookmarking site with a database for several million books. goodreads can help book collectors determine whether or not there is, in fact, a more modern printing of a rare book.
For example, a few years back, I wanted very much to read George Du Maurier's Trilby. For my birthday, my family got me a rather expensive edition from Dodo Press. It was not till much later that we realized Oxford World's Classics released an edition of this novel in 1999. It is still in print and is much cheaper than the Dodo Press edition or most antique editions.
This was the fault of the amazon.com search engine. If you go on amazon right now and search for Trilby (Be sure to specify that you want Du Maurier's book! You don't want whatever that is by Diana Palmer.), you will see that they begin listing similar items (e.g. The Castle of Otranto) long before they mention the Oxford edition. goodreads, on the other hand, lists this edition first.
If the book is available, goodreads also provides links to Barnes & Noble, amazon.com, half.com, and other sites along with a low-to-high price range.
Happy reading!
